D ear friends, I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers while I was unwell. It meant a lot to know you care. It also makes Easter +me feel I shouldn’t be mean and prick consciences with this letter; but hey, it is Lent; we’re all supposed to be giving something up. So instead of giving up wine like last year (you know who you are!) or chocolate or cheese strings, how about giving up something which is dangerous for your spiritual waistline - APATHY.
This poem comes via an American Baptist pastor called Doug:

They lie on the table side by side,
the Holy Bible and the TV guide.
One is well worn and cherished with pride;
not the holy Bible, but the TV guide.
One is used daily to help folks decide.
No, not the Bible, but the TV guide.
As the pages are turned, what will they see?
Oh, what does it matter - turn on the TV!
So they open the book in which they confide -
Of course not the Bible, the TV Guide.
Maybe a verse ere they fall into bed,
exhausted and sleepy, as tired as can be:
Not from reading the bible - from watching TV.
So back to the table, side by side,
Go the Holy Bible and the TV guide.
No time for praying, no time for the Word;
God’s plan of salvation is seldom heard.
But forgiveness of sin, so full and so free,
Is found in the Bible - and NOT on TV!
