Gamlingay Baptist Church

Jesus was a man of action, but he understood the balance between work and rest, activity and solitude. On one occasion, when a huge crowd surrounded him, we read, "He departed again into a mountain by himself alone." Think of the control he exercised over his schedule. Think of the criticism he exposed himself to by saying, "No." Think of the communion he enjoyed with his Father because his priorities were right. But don't just think about this; let us learn to follow his example. Disciples of Jesus are called to "walk in his steps."

We have to stop seeing rest and recreation as a loss of productivity and stop feeling guilty about it. Jesus called his disciples to, "Come apart and rest a while." We need to come apart with Jesus today, before we fall apart!

Because rest time is repair time; rest time is renewing time; rest time is receiving time and rest time releases your potential to do even greater things in the future.

crossSo let’s try and get the balance right between work, rest and play; more than that, let us learn how to rest in the Lord.

God bless you,

Tom Elsby
