A History in Photographs Some years ago, Gwen Sharpe and I found we had a common interest, the history of our village, Gamlingay. The main part of this history was old photographs and the stories that went along with them. Some were street scenes. Some were of people, both at school and at work.
As we talked and looked at the collection of photographs we wondered why no one had published a book
After some years as Chairman I had to stand down because of work commitments but now, with more time on my hands I have joined again. Gwen has kept on as a member and is now an honorary member and Vice-Chairman. We started planning the book of photographs some three years ago after the huge success of some exhibitions showing the now rapidly growing collection of old photographs. After lots of hard work we finally had Gamlingay – A History In Photographs published at the end of March this year. We have already started work on a Volume Two as this first book is such a huge success. One thing we would like to do is get more of the villagers involved, with their photographs being printed in Volume Two. We are looking for village street scenes, people, school photographs, hobbies and sports, farming, work and many other things to do with the village. If anyone has photographs they can lend us to be reproduced, or wishes to buy a copy of Gamlingay – A History In Photographs, please phone Nick Bruce on 01767 651025. We hope that those who buy the book enjoy it and come to learn more about our village and its people.
