ith our first season completed it’s time for some reflection.
It’s difficult to believe that some two years ago we put an advertisement in The Gazette asking if any local boys and girls would be interested in attending Gamlingay soccer school on a Saturday morning. The response was overwhelming with some 40 – 45 children turning up week in week out, working on and improving their football skills. Recognition must be given to many of the youth and senior Gamlingay team who gave up their Saturday mornings to help out in those early months. As time went by some parents, itching to dust off their own football boots, took over some of the reins.
From these grass roots three football teams were formed, U8's, U10's and U11's. Early on, both coaches and players alike were finding their feet, but with the help of pre-season friendly matches the teams began to gel.
In September 2006 the season started for real. Results for the U8's and U10's were mixed to start with, however the U11's, under the watchful eye of their young coach Dean Hains, went off with a flyer. Great results in the league and a good cup run would follow for them.
For the U8's and U10's as the season progressed so did their performances and both finished the latter half of the season strongly; which resulted in both teams finishing mid table in their respective leagues.

During the month of June (apart from the 9th ) we will be holding trials on a Saturday morning between 9.00am and 10.30am at the First School. Any child aged between 5 and 12 both boys and girls is more than welcome to attend

For the 2007/2008 season which starts in September we are looking to run four teams, U8's, U9's, U11's and U12's. All of the support that we get is from volunteers and for us to run four teams is a big commitment to give. However it’s a commitment worth giving to ensure that we give the youth of Gamlingay and surrounding areas an activity that they enjoy doing, keeping them occupied, active and engaged in a team sport that can only be good long term for them and the community.
As I said before all of the help we get is from volunteers, so we would be more than delighted if any parents would like to get involved with Gamlingay Colts football. Whether this help is giving up some of their time to help train the teams or financial help - as we really do need sponsorship for a new set of goals, team kits and footballs.
Thanks to all the parents that got involved in making 2006/2007 season a great success and particular thanks to:
