When we first opened at the end of October 2003 we talked about a logo competition for our Resource Centre. We are now looking for entries from all age groups. The design will be used on all our publicity, stationery and even on the books that belong to the Resource Centre.
Since opening we have had fantastic support from Gamlingay Parish Council, Gamlingay Village College and local families in the form of funding, the provision of facilities, and donations of books and videos. We have also received £380 from the 60’s night held at GVC, and over £200 from the Ladybird Club annual sponsored walk. Thank you to everyone who has given us their support. If you have not had an opportunity to show your support and would like to then ‘Friends of Gamlingay Resource Centre’ will allow you to become a life member. For as little as £1 per year, or as much as you wish to donate, you will be invited to attend our AGM and have an input into the running of the Resource Centre. For further information please contact either Jackie Hough (01767-651070) or Paula Edmiston (01767-261749). We have received a huge number of donated books and videos. By the end of January we had catalogued 388 and hope to have completed all donations by the beginning of March to coincide with the arrival of new shelving. Our first rotation of Cambridgeshire Library Service books takes place during the last week in February. We will receive 100 new titles. So if you have managed to plough your way through the 700 adult and 300 childrens’ books that we have, then come and take your pick from the donated books and new selection. If there is something specific that you are looking for then we can request it for you from Cambridgeshire Library Service. We charge 60p per item for adult material (£1 from the mobile library) and nothing for children’s material. This money will help maintain and enhance our Resource Centre. We can also provide the 1901 census vouchers to allow you to look up your family history. As a result of the huge response we now have lots of books for sale. These sales will take place on all Saturdays in March. After March, books will be available for sale at all sessions. Hardbacks will be £1.50, paperbacks £1.00. Please come and have a browse. Future events include a BBC Big Read Book Club and storytelling for children. If anyone is interested in being involved with either please register your interest at The Resource Centre (01767-651069). And finally, revised opening times now apply. |
So pick up your pens or brushes and start designing. All entries need to be submitted to the Resource Centre by Saturday 13th March. Judging will take place during the following week and the winner will receive a £30 book token.
